Portrait Commission Procedure

The painting of a portrait includes a get-acquainted meeting, a professional photo session and three portrait sittings. The final sitting will include the finished portrait.

  1. At the initial meeting the details of the painting are established and client and artist get to know each other informally. An oil sketch of the client may be painted and some casual photos may also be taken. Any client specifications are confirmed and favorite client photos are reviewed. Discussion will include where the painting will hang, the purpose of the piece and settlement of contract and time frame.
  2. A professional photographer will take digital photos of the client in various poses at the client’s home or office and a choice is made as to which pose will be used as a primary photo reference. Prior to the photo session, the artist and client review clothing, jewelry, and pose.
  3. After joint consultation, the artist will paint the initial rendering of the portrait using the selected photo references.
  4. There will be two additional sittings, each for a duration of 90 minutes or more. At the last sitting, final touches will be made if needed.

Note: The frame should be chosen in advance to suit the mood of the portrait and the environment where it will hang.

Pet Portraits

When commissioning a pet portrait, a good photo of optimal digital pixels and one where the size of the head is at least the size of a quarter is essential. Several additional photos are needed that provide a three-dimensional view. Select photos that capture favorite expressions. If you don't have a good pet photo, the artist will help to provide one.

If you are in the South Florida area, the artist always likes to meet and play with your pet to capture your pet’s distinctive personality
